I was having a conversation with my mom about foods, and doctors, what is healthy and what isn’t. We got to talking about eggs, and she stated, she asked her doctor about the conflicting stories she hears all the time. Please keep in mind, my mom is one of those types that believes every thing she reads, or hears in papers or on the news. She thinks they wouldn’t report anything that is knowingly false. In no way am I saying that they would, but I cannot count on both hands together the reports I have seen where all the facts were not presented. Anyway, back to my story. Her doctor said that eggs are high in some ingredient that started with an L. I forget what it is called exactly, but it is supposed to be bad for you. The doctor said that poached, soft or hard boiled eggs were ok. Then he told her she should avoid fried eggs. That would be all fried, scrambled, or omelets. She says she is thinking of getting an egg poacher. I said I like my eggs fried, even scrambled up with all the goodies and stuffed into a tortilla with cheese and salsa. She then retorted that I should rethink my diet. Why the hell would I do that. First of all if we were all to only do the things that keep us safe and healthy, life would be boring and tasteless. Where is the adventure in that. Basically eating and cooking (that should probably be the other way around) are about the only adventure I get at this time in my life. Besides, I have seen stories of people that are in perfect health, that get hit by drunk drivers on their way to church. When it is your time the good lord is going to take you no matter what shape you are in. So, you might as well enjoy yourself as long as, and anyway that you can. On a side note here, I am on a diet only because I choose to be. I am not following it perfectly to the letter, but thanks to it and the exercise I do on a fairly regular basis, I am losing weight. I will be dammed if I am going to deprive myself of a little pleasure now and then.
