I know there have been plenty times when I have made fun of people who let technology run their lives. You know the type, if technology was the same as it was ten years ago they would be lost. There are times, however, then it really helps us out. especially those of us who like to write.
Back in the olden days, there were typewriters and if you made a major mistake you were ripping out the paper and tossing it into the garbage. If you are having a really bad day that can could end up fuller than the thoughts in your head. To be honest erasing with one of those things was not always the best thing. A lot of times it just came out smeared.
Now-a-days, you simply type your words onto the computer, and if you do not like something you can simply go in and delete it. If you have a whole page you decide is non-sense you can simply highlight it press delete and off it goes. It definitely saves on paper and keeps the garbage can from filling up so quickly.
On an old typewriter if you wanted to re-arranging a page, there was pull and toss and start over. Now there is cut and paste. Even if you screw that up it only takes a second.
Suppose you have a previously saved part of a story, and you wanted to make some changes, or add some more. Suddenly you notice the computer doing all kinds of strange things and you are not sure why. Maybe you pressed the wrong button, but some of the lines are all mixed up things are a little cockeyed. All you have to do is close your document, and when it asks if you want to save changes you simply click on NO. Then you can open it back up and be right where you were before you goofed it all up.
Another great thing for writers everywhere SPELL CHECK………I can’t begin to tell you how many times it has saved me. Just in this blog alone it has come through many times.
I think the next thing we really need instead of another multi-gadget phone, would be an invention that helps us transfer our thoughts from our minds to the paper in words of gold.
