I have a question. How many of you out there have an alter ego. Someone you use to write your stories/poems, someone you turn to in times of shyness. Maybe even some one you use to help you be funny, funnier. I have a few, the one I use the most has an English accent. However I can also turn out the voices of a Spanish, Italian, Irish, red neck……you get the picture. I have always thought it would be funny to go to a fairly nice restaurant with a group of friends. I would warn them first of course, but every time the waiter came out to the table. I would use a different accent. Just to mess with the guy. (yes it would have to be a waiter not a waitress and preferably one with a very slight sense of humor). For instance, when he first comes to the table you know they always take your drink order first. So…in an English tone I would order ice tea.” I do believe I would like to try some of your American tea.” Then when he brought the drinks out I would look at him and simply ask, in a south of the border tone…”Hey man what’s this man?” to which he would reply “that’s your ice tea sir.” “I ordered this, do I look like a man that would order ice tea Holmes? Next time bring me un cerveza por favor.” As I am sure by now the waiter is either slightly curious, irritated, or both. I probably have him wondering “what’s next?” As he goes around the table taking everyone’s order I will go last and use an Italian accent this time. As I order I will talk about how great my momma used to make this stuff. When it comes time for the dessert phase I will ask about the different items using a red neck style accent and just to sell it I would mispronounce all the items on the list. When leaving the restaurant I would use my real voice to say good-bye.
Disclaimer: Although I may have a few different alter egos. I do, however, have only one personality. I am confident that this behavior will in no way lead to a split personality. We are sure of it…..er…I mean…I am sure of it.
