I have stated in here before, I am working on a book titled “Versus” (I have also stated before that I will probably come up with a better name, but for now that is what I am calling it). In the book I am asking people the difference between two different yet alike type of words. Words that can be considered synonyms yet may actually be slightly different. The Many Topics I have picked to explore are the following: Good VS Great, Opinion VS Thought, Feeling VS Emotion, Common Sense VS Logic, Hope VS Optimism, Need VS Want, Perception VS Conception, Morality VS Legality, and a new topic I thought of today Possibility VS Probability. This last one came to me today while at work. I was thinking about abstract things, but mainly the idea of my favorite college team winning their next game in the basketball tourney they are in. Nevada is playing Stanford in the NIT tourney. The game will be Wednesday at 6p.m. I was mulling over the possibility of the Wolfpack beating the Cardinal, and how probable it may or may not be. So the question I ask the general public, and it is the same for all the topics above. What is the difference between possibility and probability, if there actually is one, and why or why not? Anybody chiming in with an answer that is original and worthy of print will obviously be credited in the book.
One may actually argue that there is not a difference and come up with a great answer as to why not. Hmmm something worth exploring.
