This is actually the first chapter of a book I put on the back burner quite some time ago. Every now and then i talk about it. I have mentioned “Opinion VS Thought”, “Conception VS Perception”, “Common Sense VS. Logic”……There are a couple of others.
It hit me while walking out of work today. I was conversing with one of the vendors for our store. We were talking about getting off, coming back and doing it again the next day. Doing what we need to do.
Then it hit me. I started remembering the chapter of Need Vs Want. First of all I want to say, that I believe most people mistake wants for needs. Certain things a good majority of the people (in this country anyway) take for granted. Therefore they look upon them as needs instead of viewing them as wants. Common comforts such as electricity, running water, the use of the automobile, T.V., phones, computers………..Those last three are more of a keeping up with the Joneses thing. One of many things I have made fun of are people that feel these are necessary. People that can’t seem to live without them for any period of time. Hell I remember when I didn’t have a cell phone. The only people that did were the better off.
Uh Oh look at that Ramblin’ man starting to ramble. Note the quick reference to my radio show. (blogtalkradio.com/ramblinman)
Let me get back on track here. As I was headed to my car, I started to think. A job isn’t actually a need. However, if you wish to be self supportive, and have some of the afore-mentioned items. Unless you are the luckiest thief in the world-not recommended even the luckiest get caught some time-you need a way to earn the money necessary to acquire them. Then we are back to need and want. If you want some of these things you need to have a job.
So the big question is: do you want the job because you feel a need for things? OR Do you need the job because you want stuff?
