There are a number of people that will go on telling you/me/anyone and everyone that will listen. That with each new dawn, new day, starts a new beginning. They like to think and definitely say, that each day brings new hope for the future. It is the time to let the past be the past and look forward. I love optimism as much if not more than most people I know.
I am not here to cast shadows of doubt or lights of hope on the whole idea. I do wish to throw out there what I believe to be the beginning of such a theory.
The Egyptians believe(d) that eternity was not to last forever. That eventually Ra the son of God would tire and decide it was time to go back to his serpent form. Quoting from the book of mythology that I am reading: “A day would come when the son of God, Ra would tire and bring this world to an end. Then he would be reunited with Osiris in the primal waters of Nun. This was promised to Osiris when she was first given charge of the Underworld. Ra said he would destroy all creation. The land will fold into endless water, as it was in the beginning. He will remain there with Osiris after he has changed himself back into a serpent that men cannot know, and the gods cannot see. The serpent is the true original form of Ra, containing the elemental forces of both creation and chaos. It will sleep in the cosmic ocean, it’s head in it’s tail, until it awakes once more from slumber to create the world anew.”
Pssst here comes the part I was referring to earlier. “To the creator, each cycle of human history is no more than a day, and all human hopes and dreams of eternal life last only until nightfall, when the universe will collapse in on itself, and return to the purity of primal nothingness.”
Is this what you feel when you are asleep? Primal nothingness? I haven’t slept all that well in a while. Does that mean my nothingness has never completely evolved? Are we forever stuck wrestling with the past until it does? OR Is it the future and what it may or may not hold that scares us into not renewing our universe?
Food for thought!!
Second Helping: What about those of us that work off hour shifts late swing shifts or even graveyard. Does the night then become our day and vice versa . Or are they destined to never experience the dawn of the new day simply because that is when they sleep? Personally I do believe the hour thing is non-consequential.
